The Muddy Waters Woodstock Album is an album by blues musician Muddy Waters released by the Chess label in 1975. The album features Levon Helm and Garth Hudson from The Band and Paul Butterfield. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording at the 18th Annual Grammy Awards in 1976. McKinley Morganfield April 4, 1913 April 30, 1983, known professionally as Muddy Waters, was an American blues singer-songwriter and musician who was an important figure in the post-war blues scene, and is often cited as the father of modern Chicago blues. His style of playing has been described as raining down Delta beatitude. Muddy Waters grew up on Stovall Plantation near Clarksdale, Mississippi, and by age 17 was playing the guitar and the harmonica, emulating the local blues artists Son. Originally a harmonica player, Muddy bought his first guitar at the age of 17. It was a Stella acoustic that he got for which he had come up with by selling his horse from the Sears, Roebuck & Co. This Stella was the guitar on which he taught himself to play by listening to Robert Johnson records, and attending live Son House shows in the Mississippi Delta. Muddy replaced his stolen guitar with a new Gretsch Synchromatic. Jimmy Rogers suggested him to outfit the Gretsch with a DArmond FHC pickup to electrify it. Such hit songs as I Cant Be Satisfied, I Feel Like Going Home, Rollin Stone, were all recorded with that guitar. Muddy Waters Greatest Hits - Muddy Waters. Muddy Waters switches to slide guitar for two of his own new songs, and performs Kansas City in honour of Henry Glover, who produced it for Little Willie Littlefield back in 1952 as KC Lovin'. Louis Jordan and his Tympani Five are also remembered through versions of Caldonia and Let The Good Times Roll. The album concludes with a previously unreleased bonus track, Fox Squirrel, a Muddy Waters composition. Read more. 18 people found this helpful. Muddy is pictured brandishing a Harmony Monterey archtop on the cover of his live album, At Newport 1960. However, it was the candy apple Telecaster that Waters played during the performance. The archtop Harmony actually belonged to John Lee Hooker, who also played the show, with Waters band backing him. Listen to music from Muddy Waters like Mannish Boy, Got My Mojo Working & more.
