Album

Static & Silence is the third and final studio album by English alternative rock band The Sundays, released in the UK by Parlophone on 22 September 1997, and in the US by Geffen on 23 September 1997. The title is a quote from the album's final track Monochrome, and the album's cover photo is a reference to the subject of Monochrome, the TV screening of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Five years is a long time, especially in the quicksilver world of pop music, but the Sundays sound totally unbothered by their absence on Static & Silence. Instead of sounding labored and forced, the album is gentle and effortless, as if it were recorded five months after Blind instead of five years. Static & Silence. The Sundays Static & Silence Review. Released 1997. Time may not have been as kind to Static & Silence as many of its contemporaries: Unfortunately one can easily see why their poppy, lighthearted fare seems so suited to its frequent role as either atmospheric soundtracking to stateside teenage dramas their music has been used in both Buffy and The OC or as a signifier for shows wishing to convey young, carefree and. hip this albums Another Flavour was used as the theme tune to comedian David Baddiels show. But if this makes Satic & Silence sound shallow its only by association

At $200+ for an original issue vinyl, $60 for a 500 piece limited edition is overpriced? Whatever...

Overpriced Alert! Overpriced Alert! Seriously, 60 Bucks for this reissue?
MisterQweene
Very satisfied with this release. I do not know how the original pressing sounded in comparison but it sounds pretty good to my ears. Could be better but not awful. Was expecting much worse after hearing bad things about the quality of this company's other releases. There was little static and more silence in regards to surface noise and pops/clicks for me. Was pretty disappointed in the quality on the sleeve, however. It felt flimsy compared to many of my other single LP sleeves. Just happy to finally own one of my most previously sought after albums on vinyl.

I hear a distinct hiss anytime Harriet Wheeler sings a word starting with the letter S. Was curious if it was just my copy. Reminded me of glow in the dark vinyl. Not the best press.
Ienekan
Yeah mine is definitely like that too. Not terrible but noticeable
Breder
Compared to my original press of Reading Writing Arithmetic, this does not sound great. It's not "horrendous" as a previous commentator said, but it's definitely not great. Wonderful record though.
Pringles
My copy sounds great! I'm no audiophile but unless I just got lucky, this seems like the version to look for.
Chi
If this is the same cut/mastering from the last RSD release, it's going to sound horrendous. It's a shame how their catalog has been handled.
